Getting certified teaches you the skills. Training is how you build on them.
Join Live Free Diving offshore in Palm Beach for regular freedive training sessions aboard our dedicated freedive boat. Every session includes structured line diving, giving you the opportunity to work on depth, equalization, technique, relaxation and overall comfort in the open ocean.
But freediving doesn’t have to end at the line.
When conditions allow, we’ll also take the opportunity to explore reefs, wrecks or the blue water of the Gulf Stream—putting those skills to use in the environment we ultimately train for.
The Best Freedivers Do Both
Some freedivers love chasing depth. Others would rather spend their time exploring reefs, wrecks and marine life.
We believe the best freedivers do both.
Line training builds technique, equalization, relaxation and confidence at depth. Exploration gives those skills a purpose. The more capable and comfortable you become on the line, the more of the underwater world opens up to you.
Sometimes the training you resist is exactly what makes the fun stuff even better.
Every Session Is Different
The line is always part of the plan. What happens beyond it depends on the ocean.
Conditions, current, visibility and timing determine whether we can explore a reef or wreck, drift through the blue water, or simply spend more time training and playing around the line.
And sometimes the blue water brings the exploration to us. Palm Beach’s Gulf Stream can surprise us with sailfish, marlin, scalloped hammerheads, silky sharks, wahoo, mahi-mahi and other offshore visitors.
Wildlife encounters and specific dive sites are never guaranteed. Our captain and instructors use the conditions we’re given to create the best—and safest—freediving session possible that day.
What Every Session Includes
- Dedicated Freedive Boat: Train aboard Apnea, our 29’ Cobia equipped for offshore freediving.
- Structured Line Training: Every session includes line diving with floats and lines set according to the group, conditions and training goals.
- In-Water Safety & Supervision: A freediving instructor is in the water for line setup, safety and supervision.
- Exploration When Conditions Allow: After training, time and conditions may allow us to explore reefs, wrecks or Gulf Stream blue water.
- Water & Coconut Water: Stay hydrated between dives—with good vibes and whatever seasonal Florida fruit happens to find its way aboard.
When We Train
Our most consistent offshore training season is May through September. Off-season sessions may be offered when weather and ocean conditions cooperate.
Weekday sessions generally offer our best opportunities for combining line training with reef, wreck or blue-water exploration.
Each session lasts approximately four hours.
Before You Book
- All participants must hold at least a Level 1 freediving certification or equivalent.
- Divers may train up to the maximum depth permitted by their certification level.
- Group sessions require a minimum of 4 divers. Private whole-boat sessions are available for up to 6 guests.
- Private one-on-one coaching and rental gear are available as optional add-ons.
- The boat departs promptly at the scheduled departure time and cannot wait for late arrivals. Please arrive early and ready to go.

If you’d like to see Florida’s incredible marine life up close, you can book a private charter, and we’ll customize the experience for you. Explore vibrant reefs, fascinating wrecks, and the world’s third-largest barrier reef — home to sharks, turtles, rays, and countless tropical fish. It’s the perfect way to combine training with exploration and adventure.

Our open water training sessions typically take place about three miles offshore, in the Gulf Stream, where the water is at its bluest and calmest — ideal for freediving practice. Out there, we train in deep blue water without the ocean floor in sight, away from boat traffic and crowds. Most days, it’s just us and the open sea — but every now and then, we’re joined by curious sharks, baby turtles, schools of fish, or even a passing sailfish!

Here’s the options:
- Those who’ve taken a course through Live Free Diving in the past year simply just need to pay boat fee of $150
- Those not trained through LFD (referrals) require an extra certification fee and time expense to obtain the referral paperwork and process the certification which are incurred by LFD. The total cost for a referral make up session is $300 (includes boat fee, instruction, certification fee).

Dive deeper into your training with our new Deep Dive Pass, designed to offer flexibility and savings—just like memberships/class passes in yoga and other fitness programs! Whether you’re honing your skills or simply looking to spend more time in the water, this program allows you to buy multiple sessions at a discount.
Membership Options:
- 5 Sessions – 5% Discount ($712.50)

Once your membership is purchased, you’ll receive a unique membership number to use when booking your line diving sessions through our website. With small class sizes and expert instruction, your freediving experience will be personalized to help you grow at your own pace.

At Live Free Diving, we pride ourselves on offering personalized, small-group experiences aboard a private boat. Because of our limited availability, we kindly ask that all guests review and respect the following policy:
Cancellations & Changes
– You may cancel your training up to 24 hours prior to your scheduled charter for a full refund or reschedule for no additional fee.
– Cancellations made within 24 hours of your scheduled activity are non-refundable.
– Rescheduling within 24 hours may be accommodated based on availability and will incur a $50 rebooking fee.
– No-shows will be charged the full price of the activity or training. No refunds will be given due to the potential loss of business or incurred expenses.Activity Protection (Optional Add-On)
– Guests who purchase the 15% Activity Protection may cancel or reschedule at any time, including within 24 hours of the activity, with no fees and a full refund (minus the 15% activity protection)Weather & Operational Cancellations
– If your charter is canceled due to weather or unforeseen circumstances, you will have the option to reschedule at no cost or receive a full refund.
– All weather related decisions are made by your Captain with safety as the top priority. These decisions are often made within a few days of the scheduled session.Minimum Participation Requirement
– Open Water Freedive Training requires a minimum of 4 participants.
– If the minimum is not met, you may choose to reschedule, receive a full refund, or purchase additional spots to run the session privately.Equipment Responsibility
